Wasteful or necessary?

I have a medium sized clothing closet and A TON of clothes. I have so much to do during the day and the last thing want to do is deal with my unorganized closet. The closet has shelves and even dwars/cubbies but are all full of tons and tons of clothes (and shoes).

I know that most women wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time- and I am currently one of them because 1/2 my clothes don't fit because I'm still loosing baby weight.

Should I just start getting rid of clothes I don't wear often to save me time when I get dressed and put away my laundry or is that just being wasteful?

I do not have the option to use another part of my house or garage to store my extra clothing. It either stays in my closet or is sold in a garage sale. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time following the whole "if you can't remember the last time you wore it" rule. I still have a lot of clothes that I bought with my own money as a Freshman in high school that still look new!

Wasteful or necessary?
I suggest you pick out your 3 favorite things that you want to keep and get rid of the rest (the exception is to also keep your good clothes you are currently wearing most of the time.) A way to help getting rid of those clothes in your closet is to donate them. Think about how you will be passing your clothes on to others who WILL wear them 80% of the time. Also, just because clothes look new doesn't mean they are still in style. The clothes you are referring to from your Freshman year are probably outdated.

A way to tell what you are and are not wearing is to hang your clothes up with the hanger hanging backwards in your closet. Pick a date 30, 60, 90 days from the date you hang them up and if they are still hanging backwards then you are not wearing them and you know those clothes can be donated.

If you have any dry cleaning bags in your closet take them off because they take up valuable space for your hang up items. Also consider purchasing hangers that you can hang multiple pairs of pants or jeans on it which will also free up more space.

Good luck!
Reply:usuall i would say throw out any thing you havent worn in a year but since you recently had a baby ill go with 2 years
Reply:From my experience I would toss them. My daughter is 9 and I still have stuff from before I got pregnant....don't end up like me keeping stuff for so long and then it gets out of control. Now not only is my closet disorganized but it's cluttered! Which means more work for me. Donate them to the battered womens shelter or to a teen mom or something similar to that....if you dont sell them at a yard sale.
Reply:take to consignment store and sell them

Reply:I'm in the same situation as you. It's been 10 months since I had a baby and only now am I seeing a lot of the baby weight come off. I have to say before about a month ago, I wasn't doing anything about my diet or exercise, so I guess what I'm saying if you really are going to lose weight, get real about it and make the changes.

If you know that you can do it, keep some of the clothes that are in good condition and toss anything that's had it. I'm glad that I kept my clothes because now I'm fitting into jeans I wore 3 years ago and it makes me very happy. I don't know about you, but I don't have the extra cash lying around (particularly being on maternity leave from work) to keep on buying new clothes.
