Im going to the Bar with Friends, Dress shoes?

I seem to remember a lot of people wearing dress shoes at the bar when i went last time...I have a pair of black shinny shoes that I wear to work...is it alright if I wear them with a nice shirt and jeans? Or will I look like an idiot? Thanks
