Pretty bad foot pain, what is it and what do I do?

Alright so i made regionals barely last year in track and my times are slightly better this year so I thought I would make it again. Regionals are this Saturday so last week I started training really hard, doing 400 repeats, hard 3 mile runs, and a 7.5 mile run on Friday.

Well that wouldn't really be a problem if I had been running 6 miles a day or so, but the farthest I had run lately was like 4 miles. Turns out I didn't make regionals but my left foot has been killing me since I ran those 7 miles. My arch hurts when I bend my toes and the outside of it hurts too( I think because I started running on the outside of my foot when my arch started hurting).

I'm just wondering what kind of injury it is and what I should do for it. Should I ice it or stop running or just run through the pain?

And I've got insoles and good shoes, I just think it's a result of nonstop running and such since cross country started, then basketball, and then track.

Pretty bad foot pain, what is it and what do I do?
I do not think you have plantar faciitis. It sounds more like ligaments, however, you do need to take a break. Use ice not heat. Some anti-inflammatory may help. You realize the long day brought this injury on, and rest, massage, and ice is the best thing to do. When it started hurting you continued and caused more injury. Next time when in pain stop. You should not run while this hurts. 2 weeks rest may help, and then you can see if you still have pain,if so, see the doctor.
Reply:only thing u have to do is...

1. fild a hot water to bathtub or bucket..

2. then put ur legs in to it...

3. wait 15 minute...

it will make ur feel really good....
Reply:You probably have plantar fasciitis. Look at http://adam.about.com/reports/000061_9.h...

I had a bad pain in my arch when I started running hard on steep inclines and declines. I also started this after a long time of not running. I had been running like this for about a month already, but about a day after one of my longer runs (about 5 miles) the arch in my foot started killing me and didn't stop for about 2 weeks.

The doctor told me that I have flat feet and suggested that I buy better shoes or inserts. It did get better after about a week and a half of not running (I still walked around school and everything, I just had a limp for about a week).

My suggestions are to:

(1) lay off any hard exercise on your feet for about 2 weeks. I haven't had any serious problems since so it must have just been the shock of increasing my workout so quickly

(2) my doctor told me to try different shoes. Just because they are expensive doesn't necessarily mean they are right for you. I still use my crappy shoes, but I am not a serious runner, so I don't care.

(3) if you do run or use you foot then you can ice it afterwards to reduce the pain from swelling.
Reply:Sounds like a heel spur take 800mg ibuprofen and put foot up and make sure you have quality shoes. I would suggest staying off it until the swelling goes down
Reply:I had the same problem for years. My feet would hurt so bad, it hurt to walk. I went to my doctor. He told me the name of the condition, but I cannot remember it. It is common for a lot of people.

1) He told me to get a coke can, set on the ground and while sitting down, place your foot it bare footed and roll it back and forth. It massages, and exercises your arch.

2) Also, while sitting down throughout the day, keep your toes on the ground and raise your heels up and down. It will be another exercise for your foot.

3) You may have to change to a better shoe while you do your training. I switched from Nike to New Balance. It made a world of difference.

4) Footlocker has an insole that is about $20-$25. It's called a PloySorb. I use it in all my shoes. It is very comfortable.

I haven't had any problems since.

Hope it works.
Reply:if it stays in pain seek a doctor other wise i would try to soke it in a good hot bath it always helps me cuz i run track lots of times
Reply:First of all you need to go to the doctor as sooon as you can. i had a stress fracture in my foot last year and missed my whole soph. year because i was too stubborn to just stop and take a break.

my advice --- don't just run through the pain

no pain doesn't always equal no gain

i had to figure that out the hard way
Reply:Hm.... I'm not really good at answering these questions but maybe you should take a small break? It might do you some good to help the pain lessen.
Reply:its proly cause you strained a muscle in your foot and if that happens then yes its going to hurt, and if you keep pushing it then its not going to heal
