My younger cousin ate a small piece form a toy and now has a flesh eating disease! Will she die?

Last week, my little cousin ate a shoe from a barbie doll, and she now has a flesheating disease. The hospital say it's from the shoe, but they're not totally sure. I'm afraid for her life. What's going to happen?

I'm sure if the hospital told her this, they will treat her.
Reply:It's doubtful she got the disease from eating a toy. Flesh-eating disease usually manifests after a small cut in the skin goes untreated.

I hope your cousin pulls through. The hospital should treat this disease aggressively before it gets any worse.
Reply:This sounds maybe not true: flesh-eating diseases, though very exciting, are rare.

Also: not a good idea to have Mattell Toys come after you with a lawsuit.
Reply:Well if someone was infected with a flesh eating disease and came in contact with the shoe somehow then it would explain how she got sick. Has anyone else around her had an illness like that? I hope she feels better!
Reply:Considering that my niece who is now over nine has been chewing on Barbie shoes and the dolls as well since the age of three and has not gotten an illness, it is safe to assume the toy itself was not the cause. However, the surface of the toy may of had the components of which this disease consists that through oral transfer could have resulted in this case. There are variables of her age, level of mental and physical health, and available treatment that must be considered. I will not presume to be able to predict her future. Hope that she is able to recover and move forward in her life.
