Need Answers Fast! Follow Up Phone call??

I'm a college student that has applied to work at a shoe store LAST tuesday. the manager said id hear from them w/in 7 days. and the computer application implied that if i didnt get a call that theyre seeking other applicants. i havnt had a call yet...sooo WHAT SHOULD I SAY on the phone to follow up on it or to find out??

Mention that you recently applied to work there and you interested in the status of the position. Letting the manager know you are very interested in the job will only help.
Reply:i think u should try to find out other options.
Reply:Just state that you called or apply on such and such date... You were wondering if you're application has been received, if yes reviewed. Ask for potential status if anything. Don't call to much if you call once it shows potential employers that you're interested in there position. Dont be too bummed out if the go for another candidate just get back and up and apply somewhere else.
Reply:You can call to verify that they received your resume and to clarify that you can start work immediately.
