How do you lessen the discomfort while wearing closed toe wedges?

I'm just noticing that my shoes from last season are killing me this season. Last year I drove a lot, so I never noticed the pain my shoes were capable of.

Anyway, I inserted those gel thingys which helps the balls of my feet hurt less but I noticed that my big toes are smashed into the wall of my wedges while I walk. I had boots that did the same thing, but if I wore heavy winter socks, it wasn't a problem, but it's Spring time and I doubt the heavy socks will fit and it would look ridiculous.

Anyone with helpful answers would be much appreciated!

And if there's no help for me or others like me, I guess we can keep this poem in our minds:
