Do you like shopping when you are depressed?

I always shop when I am depressed. I keep buying and buying. Last evening I got an outfit by a new designer for 3000$!!!! My job is really depressing and whenever I am bored I just drive to a nice shopping mall and pick up the best of what looks good on me. It makes me feel a hell of alot better.

Is that bad or good in the long run? I gotten so used to it that at the slightest argument at work or with my mom and dad I end up at the stores buying clothes/ shoes/ etc etc... for myself.

Does help a bit though!

Oops! The designer dress is a Pucci!!!

Do you like shopping when you are depressed?
who doesn't like shopping for any reason. But girl, come on!!!! $3000.00?!?!?!?! Really, I don't care how much money you make, that is just ridiculous.Unless of corse you are some kind of super star and have an insane amount od money and need stuff for events. Why don't you try making your money grow? Invest it.Put it away. Do you know how much interest is paid for the amount of money you just spent on something to where when in 5 years it may not even fit you? Good god, if you put that money somewhere, in 5 years you would have a nice little something. You seem to be intelligent, maybe not too smart? I guess you're not getting all messed up with your money. still a waist.
Reply:Shopping only cures depression temporarily (like eating, drugs, alcohol, addictive behaviors). When the high of that purchase is gone, you sink back down to reality which is facing your life as it is today. Shopping while it may feel really good at first will have some consequences in the long run. You will have loads full goods in your home of things that you really do not need. Of course the monetary factor is a major consequence too! You are spending things and charging them on your credit card or dipping into your savings which will only harm you in the long run...which will even cause more depression.

I would recommend that you talk to a therapist. No, you are not "crazy" if you see one. You just need to talk to someone who is not biased and will sit and listen to you. Hopefully, you and your therapist can get to the root of your depression and find healthy ways to battle that demon! Good luck!
Reply:First you might need to find another way to help with your depression, I would be depressed that you spent that much, and that could be a whole problem in itself.

Here I thought it was bad when I bought a 60 dollar fishing rod I did not really need. Thank you for making me feel better. I think I just say a sale at the Bass pro shop, think I am feel depress… got to run.

Reply:you see- it's something us girls call "retail-therapy"

and the worst thing about it is that it seems to work!

I think all females has gone shopping at some stage of their life, when their depressed- so don't feel bad about it!
Reply:You and me are just alike! I do think it's a bad habit though...the more sad I am the more I spend!!!
Reply:shoping is a good thing if your buget is right but shopporalic is a bad because being addicted to shooping you might have all the latest fashion but when it comes to saving you're short.there are a lots of way to ease your pain when you're mad besides shopping. if you really do love to shop make sure you buy things less expenses, spending that kind of amount on material things leds to trouble in the end.
Reply:nah most of the time i will play some video games or watch a funny movie to try and make myself laugh. or i will just watch any movie cause they make me feel better. well in the long run it could be bad if there is a time where you need money to fix your car or some other large unexpected expense comes up. But otherwise as long as it makes you feel better and brings you out of the depression then it is a good thing. but i still say cut back on buying the really expensive stuff, it is fine to go shopping when depressed, but maybe do it on things not so expensive that can make you feel just as good.
Reply:yep it's good therapy....but sometimes it can be too much of a good thing.....you end up spending a little too much
Reply:Shopping is quick fix(temporary) to feel better till it took toll on my credit card.

Now this is what I do(either of the 4 steps when I feel bad, depressed).

1) Talk about it to my compassionate friend(called co-counselling in psychology) or

2) Sometimes Go for walk or ride my cruiser.

3) Most of the time I meditate(This always solves my problem), and see the truth. Reading the book I mentioned below made me see another side of human behaviour(myself and my subconscious relation with others).

4)SHOP at grocey store, and cook a healthy dish to yourself. Cook yourself a good meal.

Suggestion:

1) Save money, and save yourself by getting out of the work.

2) Let your CEO know that you are looking for another job, if this harrassment, Micro managing, yelling on phone and in e-mail persists.(Note: Sometimes we think we are doing okay, but putting ourselves through harrassment, and abuse. Just confronting the person who is doing it, makes us the change in our inner self to respect ourself).

3)Be nice to your parents, don't take it personally. But don't put up with abuse of any kind from anyone.(There is a reason behind an approx. 12 hour distance between me and my parents by where you life). Shhhh!! I didn't say that.

Looks like getting yelled at seems to be a thing for you at work, and at home(with parents). This is a more serious issue than just putting up hateful, micro-managing, manipulative boss. This is not a quick fix answer, It might be a little longer process. Read "Emotional Intelligence" by D. Goleman, it says why you end up in same situations of abuse in your life(eventhough you are not asking for it). I'd rather you read it and find it for yourself.

Best of luck on you feeling better and have fun reading.
Reply:Face the reality ,its tougher to earn in jobs compared to ramp walking, u r accountable to give results and profitability in a time span with the competition hotting up, if u r smart and want to prove ur self ,lay out a plan after doing your home work and indicate what returns would u give the organisation for how much investment in what time span ,to the CEO, make sure that ur plan has to be better and a knock out for ur boss, dont go by flattery and short term depression cures.all the best
Reply:i don't really know...not really...when i'm depressed i don't go shopping...but my mom gets mad when she takes me to the mall and i don't get anything...so she ends up getting me something when i'm not looking...but yeah you should find something other to relieve yourself...try giving out a good scream or listening to classical music like Canon in D to help calm your nerves...works for me...maybe it'll work 4 you...
Reply:Nooooo.

I don't let myself go shopping when I am depressed or else I will end up spending A LOT of money I shouldn't and then I will just feel even worse.
Reply:i dont really get depressed much i love my life but when i do im usually crying so i culdnt go out souunds like a gorgeous dress%26lt;33
Reply:i just shopping at the grocery lol
Reply:Depressed is a strong word. If I am depressed I won't leave the house at all.

Now, if I am feeling down then shopping just makes me feel worse. The 2 things I get stressed about are 1) Having an argument with someone close and 2) feeling worried about my increasing waist line. So shopping for clothes would just make me more upset. I can only go clothes shopping if I really need some new clothes now because it just upsets me that I see how much weight I really am gaining. I used to enjoy shopping but now, sadly, I don't :-(

I do miss it.
Reply:not good in long term becose you could be addiction.find some other way to fight your depression like music.
Reply:When I am in Depress, I don't do anything. Just sleep, Sleep makes me better.
Reply:no cause it makes me fell fat
Reply:yes
Reply:i make 40 bucks a week and spend it all each week lmao (: i cant stop buying clothes!!! its an addiction lmao
Reply:well i don't think thats healthy but i suggest you get a hobby like knitting or something. but i too love shopping till i drop but i can't do it when im depressed.
Reply:I definitely do...shopping is like my artificial high haha. But in the long run it's definitely not a good thing. I know plenty of people who have been in bad debt because they can't control their shopping habits. But if you have the funds, or the self-control to say no when you don't have the funds, then it can't hurt.
Reply:OF COURSE!!! BUT YOU ARE COMPULSIVE... IF YOU ARE A RICH GIRL ITS OK... BUT MI DAD SAY: THE MONEY IS NOT FOR ALWAYS.... THINK ABOUT IT!
Reply:nooooooo, when I was depressed there was no way to get me to go shopping , but I am no longer depressed as god healed me. but I am also a man so shopping is not like it is for a woman, right?
Reply:that is a real addiction, as long as you be careful and can pay off all of your clothes then dont worry about it!!
Reply:yes i do. a lot
Reply:they say its a sign of addiction to shopping and being shopaholic

as much as it helps u feel good, try to avoid it. its expensive and soon u'll get bored and more depressed with it and wont work magic for u anymore.

doing it once a while is ok but not everytime. try going for a movie. its much cheaper and also entertaining
Reply:Keep some of that money in your pocket!!!!!
