Ladies,
when trying out shoes in the store, how do you what exactly is a good fit suitable for your feet?
Sometimes it feels snug around the foot but my last two toes get squashed and curled up 'cause the shoe has a tapered pointy tip. If I get a larger size, then my heel will lift out of the shoe everytime I walk.
Also, when trying out high heels, I feel stable standing, but once I walk I start to trip. Is this normal? Or does it mean the shoes doesn't suit me?
Thanks.
SHOES - how do you it is the right fit?
The fit of shoes is not necessarily determined by length and width, alone.
I will describe the fit, but with all or most shoes coming from China, I doubt that it will be applicable in most cases.
One must consider two other factors in shoe fit.
The "vamp". This is the length of a persons foot from the "instep" and from the ball of the foot, to the end of the toe.
The other, is the "arch". This is the length from the instep and from the ball of the foot, to the heel.
Even among those who may wear the same length in shoes, the above two factors can vary greatly from one individual to another.
I spent 17 years, buyer, in women's shoe business, long before we outsourced manufacturing to China. At that time, US made a standard of 108 sizes in women's shoes. More were made in fringe sizes, the less common.
Not only was that number of sizes made, but there were several different lasts, made to accommodate the vamp and arch variations, above.
I have no idea if those things are even considered today or if anyone makes a variety of lasts. A last is the wooden "foot form", on which the leather is stretetched and shaped. The insole and outer sole are attached and conformed to the last, made with the above factors, or shape of the last.
When checking the fit and if the length and width are correct, Stand wth full weight in the shoes. Feel the end of shoe at the toe and check the space beyond the toes. This should have just enough space to clear the toes, with a little space. Take the hand and feel along the side of the shoe, at the ball of the foot, the joint of the big toe. That joint should be at the base of the arch of the shoe. If a space is felt behind the joint, the arch of the shoe is too short.
A longer length may fit at the ball, but then the vamp may be too long and the tip of the toe will have a space beyond the toes. In use, the toe of the shoe will tend to curl up.
With shoes being mass produced, in China, I doubt any of this applies. They make shoes for the most common foot. I have no idea what that is.
Reply:If your heel lifts out with a larger shoe, get a narrower shoe. Shoes come in different widths. Get a shoe that is not only the right size but also the right width.
Ask the salesperson, they sometimes keep different width versions of the displayed shoe in the back.
Reply:Stop shopping for shoes at Payless Shoe Source.

Reply:First of all, always wait till later in the day to buy shoes, when your feet have swollen a little so when you wear them your feet are not so squashed. It seems like you need a wider shoe and are buying a larger shoe size to accommodate your foot, that is why you have a problem with the heel lifting out when you walk. Just go for the wider shoe.
